Even though I tend to prefer alternative music, I look forward to the influx of catchy pop songs released over the summer. I like me a nice little pop ditty every now and then, and summer is usually the time to find a good one. Well, this summer has been different. The only pop song I’ve downloaded and played on my iPod roughly eighty-seven times is “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj. Now that I’m really thinking about it, that may be the only song I’ve purchased all summer, pop or not. Granted, I’m cheap and rarely ever buy music anyway. But still. I confess myself disappointed with this year’s selection.
Nevertheless, I’ve had my own playlist of semi-old songs on repeat all summer, and I thought I’d share the highlights with you. Prepare yourself for a major eargasm.
| “City of Delusion” by Muse If they ever stop making music or decide to make a career out of writing songs for Twilightmovies, I’d be totally fine, despite the fact that they’re my favorite band. Their albums are gifts that keep on giving. I’ve owned this song for years, but I never thought much of it. Now, I love it. It has this Western vibe to it, kinda like “Knights of Cydonia.” Very cool. |
|
| “Americano” by Lady Gaga I love songs with a little old school Latin flavor, for some reason. “Conquest” by The White Stripes? Wonderful. This has to be my favorite off Born This Waynext to “Government Hooker.” The scene I picture in my head for this song is just…gah, so cool. |
|
| “Whistle for the Choir” by The Fratellis Costello Musicis the most played album on my iPod by a long shot, and really, the whole thing has been my summer music for a couple years now. This song, though, will always be my favorite. It’s so different from everything else they do. The melodies of this one and “Baby Doll” tug at my heartstrings every time. They make this anti-romantic feel romantic. So sweet. |

| “Dignity” by New Politics I HATE the lyrics in the verses of this song. Hate them. But overall, I like the pop-rock-rap vibe. I got the whole album for, like, $4 on iTunes, and it’s not bad. This song is definitely the highlight. If they can tone down the teenage “fuck the world” attitude, I think they have the potential to be a pretty successful band. |
For someone who is restless and always in need new music to keep me interested, I don’t log in to iTunes very often. Neither my mother nor I are very good with computers, so if I want to use iTunes on our laptop, I have to use her log in. It’s like being in someone else’s house. Everything is customized to her liking. I feel as if the whole computer will blow if I don’t watch my step.
But today, I had a little personal iTunes party planned. I was going to add some songs my mom bought onto my iPod and maybe buy something. Maybe. Of course, our library was all janked up for some reason and every song had one of those those irritating circles with the exclamation points next it. Fudruckers.
Even though I’m sick of my iPod in some respects, the fact that my taste changes so drastically with my mood really helps. I like a little bit of everything. If I had to pick a favorite genre, I’d probably choose the incredibly broad Alternative category. But my favorite subcategories depend on the day. I generally listen to music that evokes the opposite of what I’m feeling. If I’m a fairly happy camper, I like to listen to heavier, darker, and grungier music. If I’m sad, I prefer light and upbeat songs. At the moment, I’m a happy camper. Since I’m losing major steam now that BEDA is coming to an end, I thought I would post a few of the songs I’m currently obsessed with.

I adore the original, but like with all songs, I got sick of it after about twenty listens. This remix is surprising awesome. It’s club- |
And oldie, but a goodie. Since the majority of music on the radio sucks these days, I usually find myself settling on the 90s alternative station in my mom’s car. They play a lot of Bush. I like Bush. |

Maybe my all-time favorite Muse song? It’s |
I heard this song awhile ago and enjoyed it, but it’s use in the commercials for that Priest made me love it 17.5x more. |
Sorry. No data so far.
